The 2010 campaign features over 800 teams within the U13 – U17 boys and girls age groups competing within 10 geographic divisions of the U.S. and Canada. SMFC will play in a newly re-aligned Mid-Atlantic Region, stretching from Washington DC north to the metro New York City area and to Northern New Jersey. All games are played between May and August.
What is Super Y League?
The SYL is an invitation only nationwide league that features the top youth players and teams in the country. The future of elite soccer lives in the United Soccer League’s Super Y League (SYL), a professionalized system that is the first step for developing elite youth soccer players in North America. Affiliated with United States Soccer Federation and partnered with US Club Soccer, the league is designed for talented youth players destined for collegiate, professional or international careers. The league contains the youth academies of Major League Soccer (Pro) clubs, USL First Division (Pro), USL Second Division (Pro), Premier Development League (Semi-Pro), W-League (Pro), as well as many of the North America’s premier youth clubs. Through Olympic Development Program status events such as the North American Finals and National ODP Camps, the nation’s top players are identified for selection to US National Team Programs. SYL league players are eligible to be selected to participate in the SYL National ODP Camp. Selection to the SYL National ODP Camp is based on player performance in Division as nomination by the league coaches and scouts. To be the best players must play with and against the best. SYL is simply the best youth soccer in North America.
Southern Maryland FC Super Y League Teams:
Southern Maryland FC has been invited to join the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Super Y League at the U13 through Super 20 girls ages. This is an exceptional opportunity for SMFC to participate in the most elite youth league available in the North America. SYL is a sanction Olympic Development Program.
League Logistics:
The champion of each age division would complete the season at the North American Finals from November 2008 in Tampa, FL.
Team Formation Logistics:
For 2010, Southern Maryland FC SYL teams are formed informal tryouts and invitation. Any interested player may contact the Southern Maryland FC SYL Coordinator, SYLinfo@SouthernMarylandFC.com about joining a team. Since Southern Maryland FC SYL teams will be a sanctioned ODP teams, players can play for their “club” team and also the Southern Maryland FC SYL team. ALL PLAYER MUST TRYOUT OR BE SELECTED FOR THE SYL TEAMS. Placement on a regular Southern Maryland FC club team does not guarantee placement on the Southern Maryland FC SYL team. The SYL participation is optional and very selective.
SYL teams are based on “player pools” (similar to Maryland ODP Pools). Up to 26 players can be registered to a team with a maximum of 18 “rostered” per game. 26 players make it easier to accommodate summer conflicts and provides and opportunity for more players to receive high quality summer training in this elite program.
Fees:
SYL teams have an seperate fee from the regular SMFC club fees. SYL player fees cover, administrative and operational costs, player registration, insurance, fields, uniforms, SMFC administrative support and coaches. FEES DO NOT INCLUDE PLAYER TRAVEL EXPENSES.
Southern Maryland FC club players who already have the same SMFC uniform used by the SYL team: $450.00
Travel:
Player travel is not included in the SYL player fees. SMFC SYL teams will travel as a club as much as possible. The SYL fees cover travel, lodging and meals for SYL Coaches. Players will not be asked to pay any additional costs for coaches or staff. If (when) a team qualifies for the National Finals an additional trip will be to Florida in November following the Maryland high school soccer season.
Team Management:
SMFC SYL coaches, Managers and office staff will manage SYL teams. We may ask for some volunteer help.
Practices & Training:
Training schedules will be announced. Many players have summer practices with their regular competitive club teams during the summer.
